Payments & Overdue Balances

Program Payments

Now that you're back, be sure to check the materials section of your OEA application to verify that you have submitted all program payments due to the Office of Education Abroad:

  • Remember that any balance due to the OEA will NOT appear on your UNC Charlotte Student Account
  • Payments due to the OEA should be made directly via your OEA application per the instructions provided
  • For more information, refer to the OEA website and/or the "Finances" tab of the program brochure

Scholarship or Financial Aid Funds

If you received scholarship or financial aid funds for the term you traveled abroad, remember that those funds were NOT applied to any balance owed to the Office of Education Abroad:

  • The funds would first apply to any other UNC Charlotte balance you may have listed on your Student Account
  • Any remaining funds – if any – would then be disbursed to you
  • It is your responsibility to use your scholarship or financial aid funds to take care of your balance due to the OEA
  • Failure to pay a balance due to the OEA will result in a hold placed on your Student Account

Financial Holds

If you owe a balance to the OEA, we will place a financial hold on your Student Account. A hold on your Student Account will prevent you from:

  • Registering for classes
  • Making changes to your registration
  • Ordering an official UNC Charlotte transcript
  • Applying to graduate

We also will not process your study abroad grades (if applicable) until you have resolved any balance owed to our office.

Allow Five Business Days for holds to be removed

We will not remove your hold until you have paid your balance in full. Once you take care of your OEA balance, it will take up to 5 business days for the hold to be removed from your Student Account. Please take care of any balance due to the OEA as soon as possible! If you still see a hold on your account for more than 5 business days after you take care of your OEA balance, check if you owe a balance to another University office.
